Welcome to my blog. A blog designed purely for us over 40, more refined, gentile riders of all types of bicycles. Sharing ideas, rides and routes, experiences and hopes and dreams. Join me into the latter years of cycling.
A little about me:
OK. Here we go. I won’t start from the beginning with some protracted autobiography. Some salient facts:-
1. I’m 45 as of 2020. 2. I’m married. 3. I’m now an ex mental health nurse after 24 years if you include training. 4. I have had my own mental health challenges for many years starting age 17. I’m currently good!!! 2020. 5. Two kids, adults pretty much. 6. Many hobbies (wife says too many). One that sticks is cycling. Others include sea fishing, skateboarding, writing (tho this can be unhealthy for me as I do lean towards the dark side) 7. I currently work as a pizza delivery driver (I wished for a “normal” job and made it happen.)
Motivation for this blog: Well. I was sick of talk on forums of average speeds, training, goal focused stuff in terms of competing in events. I just want to talk about the joy of cycling. I’m no longer competitive and in fact if I lean this way I can make myself ill. I’d prefer to discuss the beauty that I see whilst cycling, the speed is not important. Its for me the journey and all that you take in on the way.
The blog will also discuss technical aspects, brakes, gears and so forth, airing more on the lower cost items that the average geezer can a. Afford and b. Needs. So rather than the latest di2 more discussion will be made from tiagra, sora, even tourney. Function over top end. At the end of the day its my belief that cycling doesn’t have to cost a fortune and its the experience and freedom it brings that’s most important. Don’t be put off if your into sportive events etc. You never know you may enjoy the more relaxed and refined side.
Journeys, routes, camping, are some areas that will be covered and other areas that you wish.
Follow the blog. Give me some ideas of what you’d like discussed here. Email mattbassettwork@gmail.com with ideas for content.
